Recently, I noticed a small hole in the left side headlight, about the size of a big pencil lead. Behind the hole, the glass is "funneled" through the thickness of the glass. Evidently, a rock hit it.

What's involved in swapping it and what should I expect to pay for a junkyard replacement?

Thanks,

Carter

ps. Those thick rubberized clear lense covers sound like a good idea about now...

Sometimes you see the used ones on ebay for <$99.

Going new is the way to go since after 10 years they are pitted and rough scattering the light.

I know what you mean about the pitted lenses. I recently replaced a set of Hella pencil-beam driving lights that had been on the front of my MPV 4WD for 4 years, with the same model lights. The difference in the new and old lenses was huge. The pitted lenses looked fogged over compared to the new and clear lenses.

I'm planning to sell this car within a year so I'll probably pickup a used one. It will probably match the right side original, better than a new one.

Thanks,

Carter

Do you have moisture inside the assembly yet? If not you might just try cleaning the hole with denatured alcohol and filling it with clear silicone caulk - since you're selling anyway...

Heath:

I noticed it after a rainy day because of the moisture inside. After a couple of dry days, it dried out.

I did think about that but the back of the lens glass is broken out and there is a very-noticable circle, about the size of a silver dollar, inside the headlight.
