hey guys..i've a car to buy but its overheating so i cant drive it back with me tomorrow..i've decided to just replace the thermostat there and drive it back.

i was wondering where the thermo is located on the SOHC?i've looked in the fsm supplied by zeroyon(sp?) and it didnt help much b/c it only showed a location for the maxima V6 motors..

if anyone has a good SOHC FSM, please let me know.thanks in advance, dont flame please

Thermostats are designed to stick open...not to say that it couldn't have frozen shut but I wouldn't asssume that to be the problem with out a specific reason...Perhaps you could try bleeding the coolant too

I could only guess it would be were the upper radiator hose meats the blockBTW this one says its for the KA24E,http://72.29.75.31/~videof6/ma...0.zip

thank you.i've found the answer to the location of the thing.. but the previous owner just poured tap water into the rad..arent you only supposed to use distilled or coolant?then again.. it is pretty cool right now..

well yeah technicaly, but mainly because tap water conducts the weak eletric charge that is created by the head and block being different metals, while distilled water is de-ionised and does not conduct electricity. (at least that my understanding)

You can run with tap water just fine, but its not good in the long run.

That being said it is very likely that if the owner just filled it up them self with tap water they probably didnt bleed it properly...You need to open the bleeder screw on the intake manifold and run it with the heater on or something (isnt something I have had to do so im not sure)Did that FSM work out? if so it should have bleeding procedures.

damn, yeah it was the same place, but I though you might have goten the link wrong..Well alot of the DE FSM stuff will apply for the chassis and Im sure the coolant bleeding procedure would work..

You could probably just search for how to bleed it on here.

Can anyone help me out as to what parts are needed to remove to replace the thermostat on the SOHC. PLease help me. I tried looking at the Chilton manual and it only tells me how to remove the thermostat but nothing else. I'm assuming I need to remove the radiator fan shroud and fan possibly.
