90 D21 fuel gauge/meter problem

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and i just got a 1990 D21 2wd a week ago and the fuel gauge doesn't work, i have searched but nth solid. I want to see if there are any way that i can dignosis what the problem is before i get a new gauge or the unit thats in the gas tank.

My first 91 died was sending unit in tank. Gauge is not the usual thing it is usually the sending unit in tank.

seang, thanks for your help, i think i will have to read it for a few more times to understand it. lol

RT22, where did u get the new sending unit from? u had to drop the fuel tank to get to it, right?
