I recently picked up a '90 D21.
2.4L2WD5 SpeedUS Built
It has been squealing since I got it a few days ago. I figured it was the one belt under the hood controlling the fan and alternator. I bought a new belt and cut the old one off. When I cut the old one off, the alternator just fell over. The bracket that the top bolt bolts into is broken (the piece that the tensioner bolt goes into).
What is the best way to go about fixing this? I couldn't see a way to take this bracket off...but I haven't dug into it too much. First thing that came to mind is J-B Weld. I've seen this stuff do some pretty amazing stuff, but I'm not sure it will be able to withstand the vibration / tension of the motor and belt. If possible to take off the bracket, would I be better off picking up a new one or one from a scrap yard?
