Sellers don't want to hear from educated buyers they are hoping to slip one by the buyer............but then again a $50,000 car has already depreciated a lot at $4,000. Plus $4,000 today is like $3,000 in 1994 dollars.
Many times what you have even if it requires $4,000 [or $6,000 or $8,000] to fix up may be better than many used cars offered for sale because they will need the same amounts just in different areas.
What ever you pay for a used car you are just buying the opportunity to spend double [or worse] the purchase price soon [if you have to pay someone to do the work].
