Just thought everyone owning these models would like to know that there is an after-market coolant for the transmissions on the 90-93 Q45. If you don't buy this your transmission will not last past 150,000 miles. Mine busted and the only way my mechanic would warranty the part is if the coolant was attached. Now I'm at 248k and going strong.

I have a 91 Q45a and was wondering is the coolant that you are talking about for the tranny cooler. I just had my transmission flushed and refilled and I wasn't told about the coolant.

Thanks!

Perhaps he is referring to the required Infiniti ATF fill on the dealer installed remanufactured units to preserve the warranty.

There also was a small cooler added as a kit by the dealer to the 91-92s, but not to be confused nor as effective as the B&M 70268 cooler most members have added.

Brian's right - He's probably referring to the supplemental tranny COOLER (not coolant, which is a fluid).

Aftermarket cooler is a necessity for all 90-96Q's. Easy to install, most of us have the B&M #70268 (very popular, good for up to 19,000 GVW, costs $50 at Checker or other autoparts stores), install it in sequence with the radiator and flush/replace trans fluid every 20-30K.

BTW - Welcome to NICO, Blue!

I'm looking for an aftermarket cooler since I tow a motorcycle to the track. I've gotten several recommendations for and against (for a truck model and against the factory one). Also, looking for a TCU that starts the transmission in 1st. Suggestions?

i've got a B&M 70264 on my car. I've got a 94 and install was fairly easy, but is probably easier on earlier cars. The one line from the transmission splits where the rubber hoses start.

Unfortunately, no longer a Nissan or Infiniti, but continuing here at NICO!

I *just* had a B&M 70268 transmission cooler installed on my 95 Q45 - along with a new transmission, since the old one bit the big one at 102k miles! :(

But, the car is now running just fine! :)

I had the local Infiniti dealer do the work. Since I live in a relatively temperate climate, I also had them not feed the ATF through the radiator like it did before. Based on input from the experts here (well, actually, the old NICO board.)
