90 300zx NA differential question

Hey guys, I have a 90 300zx NA. The rear differential is starting to make some nice noises. I know I have a r200 Vlsd diff with 4.08 gears. I am looking for another one for a good price and wondering if you guys know where to find one. I also was tossing around the thought of getting a r230 that comes with the tt model. Would that be a direct swap for me? I'm not sure of the difference ofthe bolt up between the r200 and the r230. How do you think the r230 would perform with a Rb25det verses the r200?

The TT diff isn't a straight swap. You would have to swap in a complete TT subframe as well as a new driveshaft. You will get more low end with the r200 and have less top end as far as performance with the n/a diff. As for your noise have you changed the fluid yet? Classifieds, cl, eBay FB groups etc is your other best bet for picking up a new one but used parts are always hit or miss. Rebuild is always a option but not very cheap.

Where are you located? Change the fluid and see if that helps (cheapest option) I have some gear sets for the R200, but only really want to sell my shorter ratio sets.

I'm not sure if the noise is the gear set or a bearing.
I noticed the humming last summer. I checked the guild and it was pretty low so I changed it then and it still makes the same noise

Well z1 and czp both sell bearing kits IIRC for both diffs. I think I only have four or five diff rebuilds, and I'd rather keep them

This post mentions differential fluid changing. How is that done? Is there a link to a how-to someone can share? I'm sure my fluid needs changing. Thanks in advance!
