I've searched around a little bit but won't get to work on my car till later this week so i wanted to see if anything sticks out real obvious in this problem. I started my car yesterday and it started hard and would hesitate, kinda sputter, during acceleration and even idle was a bit funky. I noticed a slightly different smell coming from the back, either like its running too rich or burning something, but it did this once or twice before a few months back. What I find odd is, when it started doing it last year, I changed brake calipers on the rear cause one had seized completely, and the problem went away for a while. I haven't had the money to change the fronts till recently and am about to do it, but I'm curious as to if anyone knows why that might have "fixed" it or if it was just strange coincidence. If that doesn't seem like it'll fix it, any ideas what it might be? Part of me almost thought maybe bad gas, but it only started around 1/4 of a tank left. Thanks in advance!

Check your plugs. On my old 89 the rear plug would back itself off a few threads for whatever reason (coulda been a gimped plug) So it was fairly loose in there

But it had the symptoms you have, except I never really smelt the exhaust....
