put in the DOHC gauge cluster and you'll be fine.

Yes, it is true your SOHC tach will not work.

You could do what Daunttless said, and I'm with him or you could put one of those big a** Auto Meter Tachs, or put the Apex tach or rev speed meter on.

no point in a tach that redlines at 892374672938572096 rpm's

I use the stock Sivlia tachometer...Higher redline, and swaps into stock location w/out much modification. (higher redline is sweet : )

so I would need to get a tach from a 91+ DOHC 240?

Get a cluster with your engine man. This will save a lot of hassle because the original gauges for the SR's mount in the 240's stock location and the tach is properly redlined for the SR motor.

so I buy an SR gauge cluster and rip out my old tach and replace it with the SR one.. ok this makes sense.

dependant upon who you buy the engine from you may or may not be able to get a cluster with it, I will be importing a few clusters with their host engine in each shipment for people who need/want a cluster. : )

cyrpt, not sure if this is what you meant, but you dont have to replace just the tach in the cluster...it would be way easier to just swap the entire US cluster out for the jdm one.

But the you have the downside of a cluster that only reads KM/H, the JDM ones don't even have MPH tickers on them like the canadian ones.

Yeah, you can just take the tach out of the JDM cluster. I was talking to swift who said just to swap clusters. : )

How would the 1989-1990 cluster not work? Is there any way to wire it so that it works?

Nope, because the signals are a different voltage.

I have no idea how you are using your tach, it may be reading it, just not accurately. I suppose it depends on how the signal comes across...

Ok I figured out whats up with my 1990 gauge cluster, the cluster is all 1990 SOHC except for the Tachometer which was from the Silvia. Heres a pic, tell me if im right.

Yeah, you're right. : ) Thats often what people do. : ) I didn't doubt the rest of your cluster worked, only the tach. Hehehe, you had me scared for a minute there Speed. : )
