I just recently bought a 1990 240Sx Hatch. She's a diamond in the rough just needing some polish. Been working on the small things that needed attention, but Now I can't really figure out how to adjust the speedometer to be correct again. I bought the car and the speedo was topped out and resting on the bottom of the bezel. But if you go around 50+ mph, I believe, the speedo will go backwards from 115 on down. Every so often it'll appear to work correctly but then it'll go on the fritz and peg out again. What would cause this problem? And how would I go about fixing this? I'd like to know my actual speed rather than show off to my passengers that I'm doing 110+ mph in 2nd Gear.. lol...

Thanks in advance..Jarreth

Try your speed sensor. That could have gone out. Take it out and rotate it by hand to see if that's the problem.

Also, try pulling the cluster, that could be it too. Maybe get your hands on a known working cluster to try that out?

I have pretty much the same problem but I don't really care, so I just ignore it.

Yeah I can get by without it, it's just one of my ideas to have a project car that I want to maintain as if it was 100% new lol.. Also curious on it so my mother will stop nagging me about driving a car without a working speedometer. lol
