plug your transmission sensors back in alls you have to do is cut the wire that you did. the sensors unpluged puts your ecu in a "safe mode" not allowing you to go over those rpms. after you plug them back in you will have to go through 50 key cycles to rid it of the safe mode. why do you wanna get rid of the speed limiter anyways? how often to you go over 115 mph lol

If you don't want to go through the whole 50 start cycles, you can just disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes and reconnect it. This will reset the ECU also.

Let us know if this works, I've got a SOHC too, and am interested in getting rid of the limiter too.

you can reset the ecu just by turning the screw clockwise watch the lights then turn counterclockwise when the lights blink 4 times....can also check your ecu codes but let it blink 3 times and turn it back....i read about it on 240sx.org it'll give you the basic rundown....

Actually I reach 110mph every day, so to all those who go "how often do you..?" people, there's my answer. And i would go in excess of that if my car allowed me to.

There are no adverse effects at all by going with an auto's ECU? Even minor systems like cruise control? Is this true for both SOHC and DOHC? and what about OBD I and OBD II?

If it works, it works, just seems too good/ easy to be true...

two40sxhatch,So did you find a way around the limiter yet? Let us know, I'd love to get rid of it and have everything else still work.

well i second the swap the auto for the manual to rid of the limiiter. I performed said swap about a half hour ago and it works great. I was told it wouldn't idle right...i call bs on that one. Idles great, drove same as before, minus the limiter that is. I didn't try the cruise control, but i will in an hour when i head off to work. So far i see no short comings, so i would say it defeats the "too good to be true".

Okay, it's confirmed that this works for the SOHC engine too. Got my hands on one from an auto. trans. and just went out and tested it. Although I can't really say what speed I actually got to, I do know that it didn't cut out like it did before. May have to get a HUD now just to see how fast it'll go.

u tell me what all happens to your car, any odd things, idle weird, and if cruise control works mk..... and tell me how fast u reach.... on mine, when i maxxed it i would be going an estimate of 130, and it would cut, bring me back to 110, and as soon as the ecu let me in control again i was at 130ish again hitting the limiter within 5 secs..... and i was only at 4000rpm's in 5th. 89 240sx, stock, perfect engine, 137,000 miles

Nothing weird happens at all. Idle's fine (well, in my case it idled like before. The R4 cam's idles isn't great), and cruise works too. This does not give you any troubles, except PERHAPS an ECU code that says the automatic transmission signal is missing. Which it is, but I can't even say that happens since I have not checked.

I doubt you did 130mph. Our limiter is at approx. 119mph, and I used to do the old bounce form 119 to 115 routine too. When I maxed out yesterday, my speedo needle was at or past the point of which the car used to cut off. Now it doesn't with the auto. trans. ECU. I need to do this with my windows up and lights down to see if I can get the needle to go deeper.

I was skeptical at first too, but I figured why not try it. Got mine for $40 shipped. Not a bad deal at all.
