Hey I bought a 90 240 last week and I've been fixing it up. When I bought it the kid mentioned a leak around the taillight on the right side. He said it was a common problem. Today at work I took the tail light out, put a sealent around the two light bulb housings that fit into the back of the car. I tested it when I got home and she still leaked, I was gonna take it out again and re seal it, but unfortunatly I over tightened one of the nuts for the tail light housing and it must have broke inside the tailight cause the bolt and nut are spinning together.

Me being impatient as I always am, decided instead of waiting to get to work tomorrow and get it out with the proper tools, to just shove more sealent in/around the housing, it worked on the blinker light but the reverse one is now leaking. Should I just do the same thing with the reverse light? I'm also running low on sealent and I'm not to sure where to get it cause my boss had some laying around. Its great stuff, but I'm not to sure the name of it and where to get it, if anyone can help. Its used to seal most head/tail lights. Its a very sticky, black adhesive. It comes rolled up (inbetween non stick matierial of course) and almost looks like a black think cord, maybe 3/8 in. in diameter. There was already some on the tail light when I removed it the first time, but it was old and dirty. Ive also seen it holding the thin plastic thats behind door covers. Any help would be great.

It sounds like you may need to take a trip to your local Nissan dealer. You need new taillight sealant tape/silicone. If you noticed when you removed your taillights, there was a black sticky residue with the same physical looks of tar. This is the new sealant that you need. It actually comes new in a roll that looks similar to rolled up weather-stripping. When you unroll it, it is VERY sticky and will stick to the mating surface of the taillight and the body. When you tighten the bolts down, the tape will squish significantly, thus sealing the taillight to the body. I would go about this before hacking anything else up on the car.....

Yup, the stuff you were talking about is the same stuff I was talking about. I got it at Advanced Auto Parts yesterday. I was right it was 3/8 in diameter and came in a 15' cord. 3M makes it and was about $15, I can't remember the exact name, but it said it was used for windows. It's the same stuff I used last time though. I put two nice beads around the lights this time, cause I'm getting tired of re-doing it Tomorrow will be the ultimate test, we're suppose to get a Nor-Easter like storm, so we'll see
