90 240sx Problem with running....Cat bad ?

OK...car starts...warms up & the resonator gets red hot...then the motor runs rough & shuts off......I think it might be the cat-converter....but I am new to the mechanics of nissan.....some honda mechanic told me it was a timing sensor.....just doesn't sound right to me.

please help with any advice you can give.

pull the cat and see if it's plugged.

hey I bet if you pull the codes you get a code 11. the cas but I have no clue how to fix it other than changing the distributor.but you should pull the codes first.
