I have a 1990 240sx, and a couple days ago, it started to idle very rough, around 500 and drop to around 200, then when I drive, when I press the gas in at a certain point it will start jumping and hesitating. I also filled my gas tank up completely, and it's almost on E and it's not even 200 miles.I also smell a very strong scent of gasoline, and I think I can see some burning out of the exhaust, but I could be wrong.I did some searching on here, but I couldn't seem to find someone that had the same problem...I'm not the most mechanically inclined, but I do have some experience.Any ideas?

i'm pretty sure you should have one.

also read the sticky under drivability link and search again, idle/hesitation problems have been covered alot on this forum. keywords for searching to try, idle, rpm, stutter etc

Ahh the source of the problem has been found. Chances are the oil from the filter has coated the hotwire element in the meter and has screwed up the readings from it. You have one or your car wouldnt run. It is the main input for fuel control. If it is not sending accurate air intake info to the ecm the car will run like crap. Some have had success with cleaning them with electrical cleaner. I have not ever tried it myself. You just need to be carful while cleaning it. personally I think you typical household rubbing alchol would work better and evaporates quicker.
