I know this sounds cold but...:

It is the dealers right to charge whatever the market will bear.

In this case the market clearly bore lots (even tho in that story, they include all tax, license and registration, as part of the "sensational" price ,to hype it up some more).

Also keep in mind, the more some folks cotribute to dealer profit the more "wiggle room" a dealer will have the the rest of the driving public

If people lack the mental acuity to properly buy a car, or even know what kind of car they are buying, they shouldnt be driving in the first place.

Chances are they are deluding themselves that one of them can still drive, when c;learly they are unable.Someone who doesnt know what kind of car they bought, wont be able to read many street signs, wont know "right lane unless you are passing", wont know or act on, nearly all driving ettiquette, is likely to run stop signs, etc, etc.

I know, I am risking to sound like a jacka.s.s, but truth be told, the story is disturbing, but the part I actually find disturbing, is the fact that folks like this are driving, ratherthan that they overpaid.

Very true.

However, this stunt will cost the dealer 10x the apparent "profit" in poor publicity. Somehow, i think the couple may wind up with a fat check in their mailbox.

I agree that they shouldnt be driving, but it doesnt change the fact that who ever sold the car at that price is a scumbag. What kind of person takes advantage of a elderly couple?

The daughter should have watched her parents more. She should have been the one that told her parents that they shouldnt drive anymore. To the very least she should have told her parents not to go out and buy anything grand like that without talking or taking her. If they bought cars that often, it shouldnt be a suprise that they would go shopping, and she should think ahead enough to know that they would very likely get ripped off.

can't argue with fred really, but good lord, that's something a sleazy p0rn director would do, that being said, it's time to get that white horse and take me a trip to an Olds Dealer with war hammer in hand.

Fred makes some very good points, and I agree with them. With that in mind however, that dealer gives the rest of us a bad name that don't engage in such business practices, especially finance managers such as myself. That may have been what the market would bear, but it was unethical and just plain mean.

I truly believe that what goes around, comes around and they will get theirs. I guarantee it. ;)
