I was in my 5th grade art class. Everyone heard that school was being let out early and we were all happy. But my teacher turned on the news so we could see what was happening and we saw playback the first plane hit the tower. I remember thinking it was some kind of movie or something. Then the second plane hit the tower LIVE. We were all astonished. I was in disbelief that something like this could happen in America. My mom was working at MCI in D.C. at the time, and she felt the shock and saw the smoke and fire of the crash at the Pentagon.

My condolences go out to anyone that has lost someone in the attacks of 9/11 or in the war afterwards.

Thanks to all of those who were out there fighting for our nation :patriot:

I was in 5th grade too in the middle of lunch, the most i could remember was that after leaving i could see epic lines of parents in the front of the office waiting to pick up their kids.

I was ~50 blocks away in 6th grade math class. The teachers didn't want to tell us what was going on so none of us found out until our parents got us and told us. My mom was working approx. 10 blocks away from WTC at the time but she was running late and didn't make it to work yet when it happened.

I was in school in 7th grade. My french teacher sounded scared and shocked when she told us the WTC just got hit, but at the time i had no clue what the world trade center was.
I have never seen patriotism at such highs as i did on September 12th, 2001. I wonder what they would say if we went back in time and told them then that we'd be building a mosque there.
Never forget those that have fallen for your freedom and safety.

I was working and my ***hole boss would not let us stop and see what was happening on TV. I listened on the radio as I worked, but didn't see my first images of what happened until aprrox 11pm that night.

I was sixteen years old at that time, a highschool dropout, waking up a little after 10am that day to see that almost unbelievable news.

I was in a Freshmen in HS when my teacher was interrupted during our 8:30 class religion class.

He came back into the class and continued as if nothing happened. I was dismissed from my second period of the day, for some reason I "needed" to come home. Mom picked me up and I was a happy camper. Mom told me what was going on, I didn't believe her and even if she was right it couldn't have been malicious... right? I went home and turned on the TV, I saw the second plane hit. To this day I have never experienced the amount of rage I experienced that day.

One of the parents of a classmate of mine was supposed to be a flight attendant on one of the planes that hit the towers. She called in sick that day.

I still wonder if there was some other poor person who had to take her place. :frown:

I was just in 6th grade at the time...throughout the whole day, I had no idea what had happened. My teachers continued on the with the day like any other. When I got home, the first thing I noticed was there was absolutely no planes flying at all, just this eerie quietness that I had never heard before.

Immediately afte noticing that, I saw the tv was on with the news on it and discovered what had occured....at first I didn't believe what I was seeing.

I dunno, this whole thing pissed me off like none other....

Not only that, but a buddy of mines' dad worked only a block away from the WTC. No physical harm happened to him thank god, but he saw the people who jumped out of the towers hit the ground....needless to say, it kinda messed him up. Felt so bad after hearing that too.

I was getting ready for work. I was working construction in Spokane Wa. I had woken up early and had more time than usual to get ready so I turned on the TV. I remember being stunned that something like that could happen to us. I called into work and spent the day watching the news.

I recently found out that a few of the Os in my old unit had been hit while in Afghanistan. Maj Smith took AK rounds to his legs and arms and is currently back at Camp Pendleton. He is an awesome guy and can out Crossfit almost anyone. My last deployment he was our workout guru.

Maj Weis was my OIC before I PCAd to a new unit. He was also an awesome leader and a Marine and an over all good guy. He was KIAd 7222010 when his cobra was shot down while supporting ground tools in Afghanistan. He was survived by his wife and two kids.

I was in my PA office on a conference call with a group of Regional Managers. The manager from Jersey City had a birds eye view and described what she saw including watching the explosion from the second plane. I alerted the rest of the office to turn on the TV and it was disturbing to watch.

I was in an elevator in 180 North LaSalle in downtown Chicago on my way up to my office. The elevator had a Captivate news terminal and we saw images of the crash. After the subsequent two confirmed crashes, our building (along with most others in the Loop) were evacuated.

I have never and will never again ride on an El train as quiet as that one. My wife at the time was running a restaurant in the Southport neighborhood. The place was filled with people drinking and watching the news. In my memory, no one was talking.

How many of you have actually been to the WTC? Before or after? I have been to it a couple times, all before 9/11. I have a friend whose dad had on office on the 87th(?) floor. He had retired a couple years prior to 9/11. A group of us went up to his office on a few July 4th's to watch the NYC fireworks. The view was insane. Watching small planes plowing thru the fireworks at eye level. It was an impressive facility in its time.

Being so close to the attacks, I am glad to hear that neither you or your mom were physically hurt. I'm sure that the world and life you both knew in New York City before September 11th has been drastically changed since then.

It has changed, definitely. At the time it was just mass confusion for us in school. We were 11, we didn't understand. The city shut down the Subway system so my mother and I walked across the bridge to get home to Brooklyn. This is approximately what it looked like (pic from Google).

The strange part about this is that about a month prior to the attack, my father suggested our family take a small trip to downtown Manhattan to see the buildings. We never got to do that.
