Alright,

Well with the headache i've had with this motor thats in the car right now, It looks like Im doing a rebuild. Nothing fancy, Stock rods and head, with forged 9:1 wisecos. I found a pretty good deal on these. Come to find out, my brother in law can build motors...and pretty good too from what ive heard from bbuddies whove seen him race( chevy v8 guy). SO that works out...what does everyone think of 9:1 cr for about 18 lbs or so? Jwt management and 50lb injectors.

There's no reason why you couldn't stay at stock 9.5:1 with some forged pistons...

By lowering the compression it widens the range for error, so bad tuning, or maybe a bad tank of gas won't affect it as badly as a higher compression motor. I prefer higher - I'd even like to build a 10:1 turbo KA with forged pistons...it'd be great for spool, but you need to keep timing in check to not blow things up.

But realistically, for a street motor, I'll buy off-the-shelf 9:1s someday.

Later - Brian

I found a good deal on some pistons from(raceeng.com) race engineering. For 409 for forged custom wisecos, and they stock them so no long waiting periods. It seems like a good deal...so i was thinking about it. Also, I found a place that sells master rebuild kit WITH timing chain, all seals and gaskets, bearings and oil pump for $555. The timing chain kit alone form nissan is 450 bucks...is that pretty good...or am I just thinking wrong. I though that was pretty good seeing as how all my prices look like somewhere around:

Timing chain kit- 468.29Gaskets(no H/G)-48.97rod bearings-29.70Main bearings-59.98H/G-50.00 +/-Oil pump- 150.00? Never priced one.

I think thats sounds arlight to me. Seems like agood saving. Granted, You keep your stock head, but thats what I see more of lately anyway. As far as the tuning goes...yeah Im pretty good at tuning, but this car will be using JWT, and not standalone. 9:1 seems about the perfect trade-off. Better spool and hp gains, and still very reasonable knock resistance.I think ive just about talked myself into it.HOW much better will spool up be? alot better than 8:5, or not too noticeable?

ka24DE.com has 8.5:1 JE's with like a .30 overbore for about the same price, but you would have to bore.

If you want a place to get a timing chain really cheap, check the NA ka24DE engine board here, there is a place that sells it for 70 bucks or something rediculous. I also think you can get an oil pump for around 75 but I don't remember exactly. Also, for the bearings, someone in the CA forums found that federal mogul bearings are actually more precise than graded OEM bearings, so you could save some money and get some FM ones from your local parts store instead.Hope that helps you out!

I've got a set of Wiseco 9.0:1 forged pistons in my KA-T right now. Except that 2 1/2 years ago when I got them the were custom made and expensive as hell. I am using JWT engine management, Z32 MAF, stock rods & headgasket. I am running about 16psi right now.I dynoed 243 to the wheels at 14 psi last week with my ghetto injector duty cycle monitor telling me I was going static(!) at 5900 rpm. I think it is lying to me. Thre is no way 50lb/hr injectors are going static at 243rwhp with a 12.2:1 A/F ratio.

I'musing a T3. 60 trim compressor, .63 A/R turbine ball bearing center section. It's not meant for huge power, just for good response. It should max out around 350-370 crank HP, a little more then the injectors should.

I'm telling you that the timing chain is like 77 bucks if you check a thread onthe first page of the NA ka24de forum.

You don't only replace the chain; You have to replace the chain guides, worn crank and cam gears, tensioners, etc.

Why would he rebuild the entire engine, then be cheap and only replace the chain?

I thought he was talking about just the chain. That's a really good deal for a kit.
