9.1 1 compression Should I feel lucky

I was wondering if their was any difference in the hp or tq between the early higher compression sohc and the newer lower sohc. other than the extra abuse the engine components take. Does that mean I should run a little better gas. Maybe atleast 89 or 91..Sorry Newb Questions

No, and no.

The difference in 8.6 and 9.1 is about 2% total power...not even noticeable.

oooohhhhh I FEEL IT! Just kidding. Still though that is a difference. 2% What that is about a k & N filter install. I am already there awesome, I can quit modding now. Thanks though I was curious.

The sohc's have different compressions?

Do you know which months/year the lower compression one is?

first 6 months of production had the 9.1:1, all else had the lower compressions

Yes...

the early-89s had 9.1, and the late-89s and all 90s had 8.6.

You can tell the difference by looking for anintake air temp sensor...it was added at the same time as the compression change.

If you seach Freshalloy, you can find a copy of the "Technical Service Bulletin" describing the changes.
