Hi there,

I am thinking of the above swap. What year is the best recommendation. Is the 98 ka24de the best?

Ultimate intent is to turbo the engine.

Thanks for any recommendations.

All KA24DEs make about the same power. Less emmissions bs on the earlier engines, lower mileage on the new ones. Its basically your choice.

On the same note, how much harder would it be to turbo say a KA24DE from a 98 compared to a 92 or so in terms of emmisions?

Not too difficult considering the fact that you'd be getting your ecu reflashed/running a piggyback/standalone, thus eliminating most codes caused by the removal of the emissions bs.

Then again I could be wrong. This is the same reason I'm sticking with my 93 KADE

there's not much difference... basically from the E... the DE is 15hp more. There are several of guys in the tri-state that go KA-T.

I am not thinking of this for just the 15hp increase.

The thing is that my ka24e has 161k on the engine, but before I turbo it, I would have to do a rebuild, but this woould cost a more than just swapping to a low milage ka24de.

Thiis would also allow me to do the auto to manual swap at the same time.

My plan is that the newest de (98) would offer the lowest milage. I just don't know if there is any other reason to choose another year.

How cheap is a 98 ka24de swap? And how expensive is the rebuild? And a newbie question: When swapping in a 98 ka24de, would that be swapping in the OMDII?

Well I would stick to the chassis, I would get a 91-94 KA24DE for ease of installation and versatility. But that's just me though.

yeah go with the 91-94, and the swap can run, (if you have free labor) about 400, rebuild 504 (this is minus the labor)

the only thing you deal with when having a new DE is ODB 2 is a pita if something goes wrong when its boosted

U could also source out a low mileage ka24e. They are out there.
