89 s13 ka24e auto transmission shifting funny

At first, the transmission was shifting really bad, So i adjusted the TPS sensor and that helped greatly. But it still most of the time starts from a stop in second gear. also, it will go from second to fourth for a second, then jump back to 3rd where it belongs. Are there parts that need to be adjusted on the transmission? My friends installed the motor for me, but they usually dont deal with automatics. The fluid is at the proper level.

does the speedometer work ok? does the overdrive lamp flash at startup?

yeah, everything seems to work fine. Sometimes the car drives perfect, and sometimes not so much. its kinda weird. Maybe i just need to take it to a transmission shop and get a 'AT tuneup'. could be a clogged transmission filter?

could be, is the fluid dark or does it smell burned or contain friction material or anything that shouldnt be in there?

no, the fluid is full and looks brand new.

i have noticed a "trend" with the transmission. When i first drive it in the morning, it starts in first and shifts perfectly. but as soon as its up to temp(about 5 minutes) the transmission stops using first gear. and the longer i am on the road, the worse the transmission gets.
