I bought this pathfinder for my daughter( 89 6 cly. 4 sp 4wd). It has 64000 original miles on it. Previous owner doesn't know if the timing belt was changed but got a 1100 bill last year from dealership. It has new belts and hoses and no other major parts seem replaced.Any way I can check if timing belt was changed other than removing timing cover? Also if I do the belt is it a good idea to replace water pump at the same time?.Car has only 64000 but is 15 years old. Car runs great after replacing entire exhaust /02 sensor/plugs/wires/cap/rotor/brakes and much sanding /primer and rust paint under. Body has no rust except for bumpers. Thank you for reply and suggestions.

you could pull just the top cover. that is not too dificult or time consuming. on a truck that old i would def reccomend a brand new nissan water pump if you are doing the belt too. also, grab a t-belt tensioner with that. the tensioners have been known to fail. when its apart you can inspect the cam and crank seals for leakage as they are cheap and easy to fix once the belt is off.
