89 Nissan Hardbody D21

I have a Z24 4 cylinder in my 89 D-21 that needs replacing. With all the Nissan experts out there, I've been told
a 4 cylinder from model years 90 thru 95 will hook up to the 89 Trans I have ( Which is also 5 speed ). Is this true ??
