Got a buddy of mine with an 89 Maxima and hes having issues with his digital cluster. A replacment has been hard to find and we were wondering if and a standard cluster ( with needles ) from the same year could be used in its place? Anyone tried this?

Yes, you can switch to an analog cluster. It's not a huge ordeal. I'm pretty sure you'll lose the HUD (if it has it) when moving to analog, though.

It's been covered in pretty good detail by some of the 240sx owners who have done the same swap. The swap should be pretty much identical for the Maxima. Do a few searches for digital dash swap, etc. in the 240sx forum and you should turn something up.

If he really wants to keep the dash, there are a few places that will repair or refurbish them, though it isn't cheap. They're not very common, especially in Maximas, so he may want to keep it. I'd probably go nuts with a digital dash though, so I can see why he'd want to get rid of it.

Sounds good i'll let him know. Yeah it has the HUD and everything but right now only the gas gauge is working on it. Guess we will look at picking one up and swapping it out. Thanks for your help!
