89 KA24E - Hard start/shakes/smoking from exhaust/back fire

started my car up and it was shaking and smoking pretty badly, felt like it was bogging down pretty bad...it idled fine but when i shift it would backfire and it was not accelerating very fast. I have done a tune up (180 compression on all 4 cylinders), new coolant temp sensor, adjusted timing....dont know what it could be??

Hummm I went for a drive in my S14 and when i came to a stop sign and was ready to go it started shakeing at idle and when i step on it a little the hsake went alittle away but still there.

I notice my engine has a oil leak maybe needs oil ( the oil level was a bit low) i need to buy a quart.hope hat fixes mine I need it for work.

have you found out your problem????

Sounds like the timing may have slipped. When was the timing chain last replaced? Throw a timing light on it and check.

check the air temp sensor the little one on the side of the airbox it controls timing and fuel the wire broke on mine and all i got was smoke,lots of fuel running rough,hard starting

I have the single cam, is it attached to the outside of the airbox?

Check you motor mounts. I have the issue of shaking with rough starts and no torque. My timing is perfect and compression was just over 180 on my cyliders. My motor mounts are blown though so i am replacing them with nismo ones. The more your motor shakes the less torque being transfered to your wheels. How bad is the shake?

the shaking is intermittant, so im not sure its an issue with motor mounts, but i could be wrong?

hey man, u said ur head was ported and polished, what torqe specs are the head, i have a new one i ported and polished i just need to know what the torqe specs are and the sequence in which order i torqe them too./

it could be motor mounts if it is intermittent shaking, but if its smoking and backfiring aswell, probly something else.

yeah i'd listen to them an check the timing, an just make sure you dont have rod knock, usually with the motor mounts yea it will start kinda hard but nothing extreme. an i back fire alittle to because im running alittle richer because my air temp sensor is not on right. that an check your pcv valve, that would make it run like S***.just go over everything. spark plugs are'nt arkin out or the wires, an check to make sure u dont have a leak at the manifold to the block, those gaskets have to be replaced. check fuel filter to, an while your at it check to see if u have a vacuum leak. least than you'll know were ya at

the issue I had with my car was the IAV. it was cloged there 4 not worken'. this also caused my cel to come on and give 32,45 which were both good. Also it has a case of the shaked. After I changed the IAV the idle is better no more cel, I still have a slight shimie due to cyl.#3 not holding CP. It dont bother me at all.

Oh my IAV was cloged on the top hat looken pice with the little vac line that gose to the IAV solinoid, Good luck
