More than likely its just the timing chain guide that got loose or is dragging or whatever. It happens on alot of s13's and will not cause any damage. The guides can be removed or left in.

I know this is probrably one of the most popular questions on this website, but mine makes that noise (only at cold start up for a few seconds). But the kicker is that mine's a KA24E - therefore there's only 1 chain and no top guide....

Isn't dat vierd?Any ideas on what it could be?

My thoughts are it is a side guide or something and then it stops once enough oil hits it...

Yeah, most likely. The timing chain guides often only rattle at certain rpms, in your case, at start up. I have the rattle too, and it only ocurrs at idle. As soon as I get moving it goes away. Probably just a guide, if you are worried about it, go to a shop and get them to look at it. When i first got my car, it worried me, and the worker at a shop listened to it and new immeadiately that it was just the guide and nothing to worry about.
