hey guys ive got a 89 hatch wit the sohc ka and a 5speed swap. i bought the car and the guy said the gauges worked untill someone stole his head unit. i dont know if this is true or not but its my headache now so im trying to figure this out and need some help. the speedo never works and the rpms will randomly work but not correctly or for very long. the fuel gauge and water temp dont work either. the lights at the bottom of the gauges(seat belt, fuel, etc)work and the clock works. at the back of the gauge panal there is only a couple hot wires which i believe r running what works. the speed sensor in the side of the transmission coonects to a connecter that has two yellow wires that go to the fuse box by the battery and disappear under the fuse box and into the harness. i unplugged the temp sending unit and it quit reading so i think it might be bad on the motor but have no idea on the rest. there is a ground maybe off somewhere or could all the wires be junk? ive read thru the 5 speed swap on here a few times and i really dont see anything wrong with that besides none of the sensors on the transmission r hooked up besides the speed senor. the auto speed sensor is still wired in but wrapped around in the car along with a big grey metal thing that i believe moved the auto transmission into gear with some wires that went to the sensors. can i wire up the rpms and speedo without using the stock harness? i dont care about the fuel as the low fuel light works and i keep gas in it. any ideas of what to do would be greatly appreciated. thanks, kevin.

I am having the same issue with mine. the speedo, tach, temp gauge,I am not sure about the fuel gauge, all of the warning lights on the bottom of the cluster are not working. All this and just yesterday my right signals ceased to function. Today I am armed with every electrical schematic available and I am going to try to solve the problem with the signals.I just removed a security system and a radar unit from the car. Who ever had put this in had spliced into a mess of the wiring, so I am hoping to find the problem there. But and this is a big but, the cluster problems occured before I did this and I was trying to dig into that when I found the security system. I did not even know it was there. Let me tell you I may have a nightmare on my hands but thenwhat else is new. I will see what happens today and report my results. If any one out there has a solution though I would be glad to hear it. I have read some of the other suggestions and I will try those first starting with the speed sensor. I just wish so longingly back yard mechanics would leave wiring alone or if they just have to do it, do it properly with proper links, fuses and plug ins.
