I was wondering if I should try to go with a digital gauge cluster and maybe even the digial HUD dash. Is it worth it to try to convert my base 89 240 over? Is it possible? Thanks Tek.

Thanks. I am really just thinking of doing the gauge cluster. I'm mainly wondering, though, if it's possible to do the swap. Has anyone here done it? Or is the result not worth the trouble. Thanks again.

Richard A Parr- it's good to be "cautiously conservative" but on this topic there's no need- your reply therefore was unfounded since you're not knowledgeable on the subject. Your speculation didn't help matters.

As I think the topic starter realizes, 89-90 + 91-94 cluster aren't interchangeable. All you need for HUD and digital gauge in your car is:to grab a digital clusterHUD unit +the small harness that connects the two together

You need to specifically get this from a 89-90 coupe.THAT'S IT. Nothing more is needed- nothing more needs to re-wired or soldered. It's a straight plug-in job.You only need to cut a hole in your dash for the HUD unit to sit in and reflect. The dash harness that plugs into the cluster plugs in -no fuss.

If you only want a digital cluster- you just need that cluster and it plugs right in to your dash- how stupid easy is this!

I appreciate the feedback. What do you think I could use for the reflective patch on the windshield that Rivers referred to? I figure a patch of that cheap reflective DIY tint could work. But that would look a little tacky I think. It would also be nice if it could display RPM's instead of MPH. Is it possible to set it to do this? As RAP pointed out, it seems difficult to fiddle with any of those boards so if it's not a readily adjustable setting I think trying to change the mph to rpm's would be nearly impossible. Suggestions? Also, if I do this conversion, I assume the mileage counter is going to have to be adjusted for my car. I'm not planning on making false mileage adjustments, but is it even possible to change the mileage counter? Otherwise I guess I could just keep track of the mileage when the new cluster goes in. Thanks again. Peace. Tek

The reflective patch is not really necessary- people that replace their windshields because of cracks etc are not willing to pay $400-$750 for the HUD windshield- when the $100 normal windshield is the norm. Everyone says they can see the reflection just fine without a tint- I myself owned a HUD 240 with no tint windshield- it's not a big deal- you can get creative if you want but it's not necessary.

You can most likely take the odometer out of your old cluster and transfer it if it's that important to you. On an 89-90 car most states don't care anymore how many miles there are.

If you want an RPM gauge you already have one- there is a JDM reflective HUD product- whatever floats your boat. Now that you know all this good info- you're going to follow through getting it done, right?

Yeah I think so. I just had to get my clutch master and slave replaced, so funds are low. But I'm definately gonna do it, and get that rpm mod for it too. Thanks for all the feedback. If you want I can take digital phots, but it really isn't going to be that interesting I think. Thanks again for all the feedback. PEACE. Tek.
