hey everyone,

Heres the story. I am helping a friend with his car. The car was sitting up since 05 and I just got the engine running again. Now the car will move into reverse and forward although the transmission is not upshifting. When we put it in d1 and d2 and d, it all seems like its in first gear. Now also he had the transmission changed out and we are not sure if the auto transmission is for a sohc or dohc without looking up the part number. My question is before i pull the atcu out and check everything. Can a dohc transmission be run in a sohc car without modification? Also I ran the diagnostics on the car and the first time it came up ok. the second time i ran it, the atcu said that the rev sensor was not working. So i looked at the plug and on the sensor side it had red, black and white wires, while on the car harness side it has two blacks, and one white wire. And i noticed that the white wire and the black wires did not match up together. Can someone look at their car and tell me if they should match up or not. Also I noticed that the wires on the speed sensor side harness are green and black wires. Plus this transmission has a drain plug on the bottom of the transmission and I remember on my auto transmission from my car a long long time ago it did not have a drain plug. that is why i have a 5sp although my buddy chris wants to keep his auto transmission. Anyways if he does have a dohc transmission, are the wiring harness different or the same? If they are no problem i have done a h22a swap in an accord, sr20det, and many stock swaps. In addition, after searching i found an article where people where having similar problems although their car did still drive. He tried today to disconnect the rev sensor and still nothing. Although the speedo does not work in the car, so I don't know yet if the speed sensor works. That is the next thing I will check to make sure it works then it not I will pull the atcu and check the terminals. Oh yeah when I pulled the ecu codes it came up that the coolant temp sensor was not working although I didn't think that it would matter. I know that the fsm says that the engine sensors have to work before pulling the atcu codes. So this weekend I will check the codes again

thanks for any helparic anderson

ok i pulled the ecu codes and found out that the speed sensor isn't working properly either. I pulled the sensor out and it was red. While I had an extra and it was green so I put it in. I tested both sensors and they work although the speedometer does not work. Now does the ecu read the speedo to see if it works then tells the transmission to shift?

found out that the ecu wasnt reading the speed sensor. I replaced the instrument cluster since the old one was oxided, and some of the connections on the circuit board were broken. Now the car hauls butt and shifts.
