i think we shouild have an exteriors forum also, because body kits headlight conversions and things of that nature are very common topics. anyway so i'm looking at buying a sleek style headlight conversion (something that looks closer to the 90-96 300zx). i've come across one that looks kind of cheap but costs a lot of money and then one that is made out of carbon fiber that is not as expensive but does not include the actual headlights. all the ones i have seen are on ebay and i don't know of any site or company that lists them consistently. the carbon ones look the best right now. there was a veilside headlight conversion that looked better than anything i have seen, but if you go to their website it says it is no longer available. anyway so if anyone has any experience with any of these or any information abouit them (where i could get a good one) or whatever, please let me know.... this is something i have been looking for for a long time. i know there are projector headlight converions for pop up lights but i don't want pop ups... if all else fails i may just make my own with fiberglass or something, but i don't particularly like the smell of fiberglass so working with that stuff is not something i really want to do. here's a picture of the expensive ones... this is the kind of style but variations of this are welcome of course.

I think your best bet would be the cheaper, carbon-fiber ones. My friend has them on his 92 coupe and they look pretty sweet. He just installed some basic Hella fog lights and they do a great job lighting up the road.

First, I think you should decide how much you want to spend in total for your project. I know of a number of headlight options spanning anywhere from about $300 to almost $1500. I'm a lighting freak so I chose to spend closer to the top of that range on my headlight conversion. Anyway, there is a company that makes a wicked sleek light kit for the miata that could provide you with a design basis if you want to make it yourself. I think the company is called MidTenMiata or something like that. The hardest part of this project would be to craft the lexan or plexi covers for the units. Of course, you could choose to do it without the covers but it's up to you. Alternatively, if you don't want plexi covers and want the units to be exposed you could buy the EastBear housings and modify them to hold Hella H9 headlight modules. This looks absolutely sick and would cost about $600. If you want HID units, it's going to cost almost double that figure so it's up to you. I would show you a picture but my laptop gave up the ghost this morning . The Veilside kit is, in my opinion, one of the nicest headlight options for the s13 ever created and it should not be THAT difficult to recreate if you have access to a machine shop. As for the options you listed in your original post, I have not been impressed by those units and I don't think it's wise to replace dedicated headlight units with fog lights as the beam pattern and intensity are completely different.

Just my $0.02-kouki

yeah that's what i was thinking about the replacement beams... what would i do then if i got those carbon ones without lights? i'm having a hard time finding projector lamps that are small like that... where do you find the eastbear housings? i will probably buy these carbon ones if i can freaking find headlights to go in there.... like actual headlights that will provide better lighting than my stock setup... the way i see it is if it doesn't even light up the road better then it's just a looks thing and it's a lot of money for some looks... s15 lights look better and perform, so i'm looking for a comparable package. s15 conversions are freaking expensive so i am sticking with a s13 kit, and hopefully some nice headlights to go with it.

just took a look at what they have on clearcorners.com

everything looks really sweet but HOLY CRAP IT IS FREAKING EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!! gotta love the led's though and their lighting kit produces a very nice upgrade in light and appearance, although it is still pop up... i think those lights would be too big to fit as a sleek kit...
