Can a sohc alternator fit and work on a s13 sr20..I know the dohc alternator will work..But i need to know if the sohc will..Has anyone ever tired to put one on there sr yet?I looked up the oem part#'s and all the numbers are the same just not the last two numbers. They are different, the sohc is 15 and the dohc is 29..

I went to pep boys and looked at a 89-90 alternator and it looks the same in everyway as the 91-94 alternator...It even looks the same as the sr20 alternator..Just with the threads in the top mounting hole...Pep boys listing for that alternator was 90-94 240sx ?? Kinda odd i thought..But im 99% sure the sohc alternator will work..Im going to buy one and will keep you all updated with the install..

I swapped from a KA(e) to SR before and tried the same thing.

However, the pulleys are different (hence the amount of teeth).

So i did a pulley swap on them but the KA alternator with the SR pulley caused some binding and wouldn't allow the pulley to spin.

You can try it, but just giving my experience.. Hope it helps, good luck

No it doesn't fit it hits the bracket, but then again I tried to just swap alternators and not the brackets maybe that works I cant really say but for sure alternators for SOHC KA do not fit

I just put a 89-90 ka24e (sohc) 80 amp alternator on my s13 blacktop sr20det 2 weeks ago! It has worked great ever since! It's also $80-90 cheaper. All I had to do was drill out the threaded hole on top. I also used the sohc 4 rib pulley. I had to take the 5 rib belt to the part store and match up the length to a 4 rib. I will post the belt number later. I really wanted to use the quest 110 amp alternator but many nico threads said it's too big for the SR.

The only thing is that I didn't get the tensioner bolt to fit. I used a bolt with 3 nuts very tight and then I used another nut and bolt to keep the alternator from coming loose. I will get some pics soon.

On the sr pulley, I machined some material of the hub,(to center the belt), and machined the rear face of the pulley to clear the ka alternator body. If you can find someone to do this for you, you'll be set for life. Also, a few importers stock sr alternators.
