89 240sx wont start.

My friend has a single cam 89 240sx fastback that we are working on. He picked it up and it would not start. It would fire and sputter a little bit but that was it. He figured out that the head was messed up because some stuff wasnt bolted up tight enough. He took the head off and put a different head on. We have fuel and spark but it wont start. It doesnt even act like its getting spark but we know it is. Just curious if anyone here has any ideas.
