Check your fuel delivery, and your spark.

umm not sure how to explain in like an electornic motor starting for 2 seconds(give or take). sound should be coming from fuel tank. correct me if I'm wrong.

even better have someone turn the key while you stand at the rear of the car. the sound should be pretty noticable though

I had the same symptoms several times.

Check to see if your plugs are fouling with oil. If they're not dry and white/tan in color, you should replace them. It's also a good idea to replace the spark plug wires and distributor cap if it's been a while, or you have no idea when they were replaced.

Fuel filter is a possibility. Fuel pumps usually die completely...they won't go in and out (unless you're having another electrical issue).

If it's missing, I almost guarantee it's the three items that I listed in the ignition. Luckily, they're all reasonably inexpensive to try out.

Ya I would start with the easy stuff. Cory240 (i think his user name is) has a thread on how to clean out your IACV (not that it is some huge project ha ha). Do the fuel filter too.

There is an idle set screw on the sohc 2.4...It's on the front of the throttle body..as you look toward the back of the car it's on the right front corner of the t-body. It looks like a nut with a bolt coming up through it..very small. The bolt part has a slit in the top of it. It's kind of between the spring for the tb and edge of the tbody cover. Anyway..you hold the nut part with a wrench and turn the screw with a small standard screwdriver. You loosen up the nut...turn the screw...then tighten the nut up again when you have it set like you want it.
