About 2 weeks ago, my transmission started makin some loud noises. it sounds like the clutch or flywheel scrapin or somethin, because does it when the clutch is disengaged. its really loud and sounds real evil.

now a week ago, this crap started where every time i shifted into 4th gear it would grind a little. i could get past the grinding if i shifted real slow into gear, but still not always.

and then as of earlier today, icant even shift into 4th anymore. it just grinds if i try, and it wont even go in if the car is off.

89 240sx55k miles on motor, ???? on transmission. had 5spd swap done in november. everything but the transmission and flywheel were new.

is it only in 4th? 4th is 1 to 1 ,in other words only the main shaft is used for power transfer. the counter shaft is along for the ride. Or is it in all gears and in nuetral you hear the noise. Either way its internal trans likely and it will need to be torn down and inspected for damage.

Yoour trans bearings are wasted and you quite posibly broke something on your counter shaft which is causing it to be hard to get in gear.

Yea if you buy another transmission thats good that will take care of the problem. You may wanna replace the clutch components while your in there.

if its fairly new then just inspect it and make sure it all looks ok, no need to replace it if it looks ok.

my friend had transmission pulled out in about an hour today. the input shaft was definately busted. i could grab it and wiggle it a good bit. i think it must've had a fluid leak cuz none leaked out at all when he pulled the driveshaft out, or any time afterwards.

we couldnt put the transmission i bought today in because it wont shift into anything but 1,2, 4. the input shaft wont rotate at all unless its in 4th. it wont rotate in neutral either.
