I am having an occational problem starting my 89 240sx. The engine will turn over fine but just will not start, doesn't even get close. If I push the car and pop the clutch it will start right up and run just fine. Why will it not start with the key sometimes. This is an occational issue and the time of the day or the temperature does not seem to be an issue. I have replaced o2 sensor, plugs, wires, cap rotor, fuel pressure regulator, had all injectors pulled and rebuilt. Still has intermittant starting issue and also occational RPM drops when trying to start out from a stop, like not enough gas is being applied to the throttle. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Could this possibly be an ignition coil issue???

I'm going to suggest the starter is going. When you try to start it, is there sometimes when you just turn the key and nothing happens? Like, the car just clicks and doesn't even try to turn over?

No, when the key is turned the car tries to start. The engine has no problem turning over just will not start. It acts like there is no gas. But if I push start the car if fires right up when I pop the clutch and runs fine.

Thanks for the help so far...

i'm having the same problem, i'm just to lazy to fix it.

check your fuel injectors for leaks. if no leaks, then check all your injector connections. the next time it won't start, if you wiggle the connections (or twist the leaking injectors if you have them) and it will start right up.

i know i've got leaking injectors, but i believe i have a short too (possibly from fuel getting into the connections).

At times on older vehicles you get a intermittent open in the ignition switch that cause the contacts to work in the start position but not make good contact to the ignition terminal in the switch. When this happens it lets the vehicle crank but not start. Next time this occurs try backing off slightly on the key position in the start position or wiggle the key up or down in the start position and see if it fires up if so you have a bad ignition switch. Some times you can replace just the electrical portion of the switch to repair this.
