sorry for the stupid thread but this has got me stumped. how do i get enough leverage to separate the upper and lower halves of the shifter shaft without damaging it so i can slip this rubber thingy on there. i've already scratched the hell out of my spare with a channel locks and vise grips.

i dont know what you are talking about. you want to put the lower shift boot on right? the one that keeps all the gear oil in the trans from coming out the top right? just remove the shifter with the shifter plate and then disassemble by removing the snap ring. piece of cake.

wait, are you trying to remove the shift knob? it turns counter clockwise to remove. i have had to break them before to get them off.

the boot just slides right over the bushing and the ball on the bottom. i am not really familiar with this plastic ring you have there.

that is how the manual shows it. i cant see it stretching that much. maybe i'll see if a shop can do it. otherwise i guess ill have to slit it cause i cant seem to get this thing separated. btw the plastic ring sits on top of the ball under the snap rings.

thanks for humoring me.

its a stretchy son of a gun. lube it with silicone and stretch away.

Mike I dont think dantech is with midway anymore. However you should be able to order that boot from anyone of our dealer sponsers. Go into their look up table.

As far as install on this boot goes. You remove the knob and the upper trim and body boots. Then you cut the old one where it wraps around the shaft and slide it off. The new one actuall slides offer the upper part of the shifter, it streches over it and then pops snug with the lower shaft once you clear the end of the upper part of the shifter. you dont even need to remove the shifter from the trans.
