is it natural for this car to accelerate very slow to 25 mph and then take off? It drives me nuts cause the little thing is a rocket after 25mph. and that time before it hits the 25 mark is just inbearable. If it is natural, is their any cheap mods that can be done to help this out? I looked for cold air intakes, but I couldn't find one for an 89 sohc and I don't want to do a sr20det conversion yet cause it has such low milage. And hence don't want to turbo it, cause that money can go tward doing the conversion.

sounds like an ignition timing issue to me.

I neverd had to check the ignition before. How do you do that? I assume to check the timing, you use the light correct? I have never used one, but can get one from my brother in law, so is their any tips on setting it? thanks in advance.

Well, it pretty straight forward. It sounds like your timing is retareded for some reason. I would check it with the light and set it according to factory spec which I can't remember off the top of my head.

I believe it's 20 degrees BTDC. Can anyone correct me if I am wrong?

Ignition timing 15 degree = +/- 2 degree B.T.D.C. at idle speed is what I found.
