Hi. I have a 1989 240sx FB. I bought it from someone on ebay. The car had many problems with it, which have all been fixed, except one. Since I bought it, it has been at my mechanics shop. He can't figure out the problem so easily, and has tried a few things. This is what I can describe about the problem . . . You turn the car on, and it revs up to about 4,000 rpm, then drops and the whole car shakes like an earthquake for about 5 or 6 seconds, before it stalls. The car stalls each and every single time like this, but if you rev it up and give it some gas, it stabilizes, then if you take your foot off the pedal, things go back to normal . . it shakes and turns off. The spark plugs are good, the wires are good, the maf is good, the o2 sensor is good, the temperature sensor is good. My next two guesses are the timing needs work, and the vacuum sensors need to be looked at. Can anyone please help me with this!?????

Thanks in advance.-GoShoryuken

sounds like timing to me

im not a guru though

so dont take my word for it

take it to NAPA and get them to read the codes for free

if its something that serious there is probably a code... if not I think it is probably the timing

Well, it's sunday so the shop's closed . . I'll harass the mechanic tomorrow about all this .. . I'll tell him to check for vacuum leaks . . the pcv valve, the idle control valve, the fuel injectors, and the fuel systems...

I believe the fuel system is okay and all the fuel delivery part of my car is okay. It is definately a sensor or two and the idle valve. It's not the MAF though, that's for sure, and it's not the sensor that's on the intake. Hopefully by the end of this weekend everything will be okay, I'll pay my mechanic on wednesday, get the registration and insurance, and start driving it. Pray for me!

most likely always vacuum related in that situation. make sure all the fittings are snug and make sure none of the hoses are worn. There are those little hoses that tend to get gnawed on by the clutch fan, and various things like that. Something like that wouldn't be a fuel pump, as long as the car starts.
