 So I bought an 89 240sx hatch. the guy before me put a ka24de from an 1996 in it. I blew up the engine. So I have a couple questions 1st I want to do and rb swap I'm thinking rb25det does anyone know of a place to get one other then eBay and if you guys have any comments about other engines id love to hear it. 2nd I've read that the stock ka trans bolts up to rb25det is this true and what trans work with this setup and what has to be done to make it work. 3rd does anyone know of a good place to find info on this swap.

The stock KA trans will not bolt up to an RB. You will need an RB20 or RB25 RWD transmission or a Z32 trans with an RB25 bell housing (I believe). The RB20 trans is much weaker, but it's cheap. Where to get a motor swap depends on where you live. There are a lot of good engine importers, and a lot of bad ones, all over the country. I've been going to Venus-auto.com for the past 10 years for all my motor swaps, and they are awesome. If you are west coast, this is a viable option. Not really for an east coast location though, as the shipping would be pretty high. Definitely search around the forums, there is bound to be a write up or two on how to do an RB25 swap, good luck and welcome to NICO!

No problem man. As for swaps, it all really depends on what you want to do with the car, what you want out of it, and of course, your budget. All engine swaps have their pros and cons.

I would put an original 1989 or 1990 single cam engine [and maybe depending on age transmission] guaranteed no fit up problems!

The only reason to use a KA trans is to save money and I would recommend staying away from the RB if youre only looking to make 300-400hp and youre on a tight budget. A lot of people say the stock internal KA with a turbo can handle those numbers with a good tune. Just dont go cheap on youre tuning solution. I see quite a few people with questionable tunes at best blowing engines. Theyre the guys who dont have a wideband and have no way of monitoring knock.

A lot of vendors use eBay for visibility, it doesnt mean those engines are junk. Just make sure you have everything to get the engine installed and driving within a couple weeks so you have at least a week or two to determine if it will have problems, since they always offer 30 day start up warranty.

Thats my advice
