I found a 1989 240 Coupe for sale in my area for $1500.00. I'm sure I can work him down to $1000.00.

The engine runs great, but the statistics match it's year. 129,000 miles on the SOHC. Minor rust, & basic dents...But, it's an automatic...Do you think it's a good deal for a beater?

My other 240 is in the shop right now and I'll be using this as a daily driver. Let me know any1...what's your opinion? :help

Hard to say without seeing it. 129K is not a lot miles for an '89. Is this a dealer or a private seller? If it passes state inspection and runs good, $1000-$1500 sounds reasonable. But the automatic is a dealbreaker to me.

This is from a private seller. Yea, the automatic thing was buggin me, but I'll be buying it as a beater car for winter. So - it doesn't really bother me...but other than that what do you think? I'll take a pic tomorrow and put it up for you...

I'd love to see it, but it's hard to tell from a picture if she's a real deal. It might look beautiful cosmetically, but be a dud mechanically. My recommendation is to bring an unbiased mechanic along to check it out. A private seller does give you some advantages as it gives you a peak into the cars past and how it was treated if you ask enough questions. Any car purchased from a dealer is a complete unknown.

Good luck

Thats a good deal...Hell i bout my '90 for $3000( and thats after i talked him down from $4500!)....and the transmission went in 6 months, not to mention that the rear bumber was misshapen because the moron who owned it before me put a fart tube on it that was too close to the plastic.. Okay. I should just face it. I got hosed.

Depends on where you are, honestly. A cosmetically nice but mechanically screwed '89 in the DC Metro area is probably worth $1500:-P Especially if it's a coupe, I once saw an ENGINE-LESS black '89 coupe go for $1650 in Rockville.
