hi, anyone know where the cams on a 89 240 is located? by cams i mean the cam gears, are they easy to replace or is it hard and what kind of torque would i have to put on to get them back in. and i also have another question, the valve cover gasket on my car blew about 2 days ago and i have oil leaking out of it. has anyone ever replaced this themselves? if so how hard is it. what kind of torque do you have to put on the bolts on the valve cover?thanx in advance!

An 89 240SX is a SOHC so there is only one cam gear.

It is located under the valve cover, on the front side of the motor. The valve cover comes off very easy. Just a few bolts. I don't know the torque of them, but it's not *that* important for the valve cover. Just make them pretty snug when tightening down. You can do the valve cover gasket in about 30 mins. When you have the valve cover off, you will see your cam gear.

Why do you want to replace your cam gear?

Anyway, to replace the cam gear, if you are careful, you can unbolt the cam gear from the end of the cam, but you must make sure you keep tension in the timing chain and also make sure that the chain links are put on the same cam gear teeth on the new sprocket. Patience is key. Just make sure you do those two things and it's not hard.
