I have a 89 240SX Auto, I was driving on the freeway today trying to catch up to a car... when my 240 shifted into 2nd gear out of nowhere. Now it has no Reverse, and will drive in Neutral... still only in 2nd gear. I can put it into 1 but it feels like its trying to grab but cant do it.
anyone?

check your linkage. could be a electrical issue with the trans. is the o/d indicator light flashing?

O/D light not blinking. I was having troubles but I had a mechanic re-wire the trans and it has been workin fine for about a month till now.

Mechanics aren't good at wiring. Check his work... sounds liek a control issue. Check the terminals, and clean them CRC QD contact cleaner and a brass wire brush. Also check the fluid level

Yeah, fluid smells good and is at the normal level. It did this before and he charged me almost $375 to rewire it. So I will be bringing it back to him tomorrow morning.
I know the auto trans are more line 300lbs of junk but I cant find anyone to help me put in a 5spd swap so I got a few auto trans laying around and a 5spd also. just in case.

dude...5 speed swaps on s13 are RETARDEDLY easy, take a weekend, and a friend and swap it out, there are only like 3 wires to play with and the rest is mechanical

UPDATE: I have car turned off and put it in N, I tried to push it into my driveway backwards and it wont move and inch back. When I have it in 1 it acts like there is a transbrake and the wheels will not move but I can feel it pulling. after I let off the car will go forward and back like someone was trying to push on it when its in park.

i've had the exact same problem. i recommend you get a new transmission. something in the tran. went out. does it sound like to large stones grinding together? if not it soon will/ the trick i used to get my car to in reverse was drive it in d then just drop it down to one. do this in a safe place. or push it down a hill in reverse lol it works trust me. im a doctor
