'89 240 knocking noises on accel or load

hello,

i seem to have a knocking noise comming from (what seems to be) the drivers side somewhere from the engine compartment. its not so much knocking but more like a smacking perhaps. it increases in rate as the rpm climb. It happens when im accelerating or loading the engine (like up a hill) its an '89 240sx single cam, manual trans, 112k miles. could this be that timing chain problem or something else?? i rely on her to get me from home to college on weekends (about 100 miles round trip). please help! i cant afford to breakdown with no means of transport from here to there.

check your exhaust bolts and see if they rattled out. That is the problem most likey
