Ok I bought a 89 240 in jan. with a blown water pump. the guy had the new part but didn't know how to put it in, so i went to look at the car got him to drop the price. i put the part in and the car started up with no problem. since the car was running i forgot to put the fan shroud on and took it around the block (I zip-tied the harness to the intake). everything was fine until i dropped it in second and the whole car started bucking and cut out. when I opened the hood i could smell gas and the part of the harness that was zip-tied to the intake was wrap around the clutch fan. after pushing it back to where I bought the car, i open the hood under some brighter lights to see the full extent of the damage. the fan yanked the fuel rail and the number 1 injector was leaking, the harness had exposed wires that melted the plastic covering. i fixed everything and the car still won't start. i change all the blown fuses and relays, swap out the ign coil because i got a code 21 six different (working) ECMs, i read about using a jumping wire to start the car which it did on my second ECM but it was in safe mode or it wouldn't idle unless the clutch was engage( vacuum problem i know). when i tried to start it the next morning to drive to work it went back to cranking but won't fire, come to find out the ECM was blown. I know this is a lot to read but I've had this car for 6 weeks and i only got it running for 20 min. thanks in advance.
