Hmm... might want to check your relays. Will it crank if you jump a wire directly to the starter?

I realize this is an old post, but--

I had two S13s that would only click when I turned the key, and I had to rewire the ignition lines with new ones. The starter solenoid, with the old frayed wires, would only get enough power to "click" but once the click happened the starter solenoid was not was not holding the connection long enough for the engine to crank.

I ran new wires from the starter to the battery on both cars, using a new relay I provided (linked to the ignition) to control that starter->battery connection.

well i actually found out that it was a bad connection to the battery. Now though i have a whole new set of problems. I got a tick over the 4th cylinder. its hard to start when hot, transmission has no reverse or overdrive, it idles weird and i think it overheats but i dont know cuz the temp gauge doesnt work. my projects now are to do the emmissions removal, i think it will fix the idle. Im gonna get an auto transmission rebuild kit(does anyone have any suggestions on this), and im going to find out if that tick is from a lifter and adjust it accordingly. PLEASE HELP!!!
