I have a '88 nissan 200sx. I have run into a problem, everytime i am driving and i punch it to above 3500-4000 rpm, the car just bucks like a mule. but i can slowly accelerate to above that rpm. this happens only when accelerating, not decelerating.

Any help with this would be great

Thanks

Dave

Could be engine knock, caused by poor ignition timing or something else. Is it worse when the engine is hot?

Check the cap and rotor. This engine uses duel ignition system and the rotor in the dist.tends to short between the int. and exhuast sides and this causes this type of problem. The rotor may have a carbon arch or a white ash type look across the rotor. The rotor sometimes will short through the bottom to the dist shaft.
