'87 Sentra Question...

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

Have an '87 with a manual transmission.Starter is new and battery is good.

Periodic (becoming more "regular") problems with starting. If I depress & partially release the clutch pedal, sometimes several times, that will usually work, making me think that it's either clutch adjustment or maybe a sensor switch issue. There's an audible clicking, seems to be from the right side of the car, during the failed attempts to start.

Is there a switch related to the clutch, or is the link from clutch to starter totally manual? Could it be a fuse or fusible link? I haven't checked those.

I appreciate any help/advice.

There should be a switch at the top of the clutch pedal that sends a signal to the ECU when the pedal is to the floor. If the switch does not see the pedal at the floor, it will disable the starter so that you do not start the car in gear.
