Thanks for the help. Both those check out this is what I have in more detail and what I have done.

1987 Nissian Pulsar SEMotor is E16i

I replaced the head it had a broke valve and ruined the head. I had another head for the same engine it was a little warped so I had it shaved. The block looked fine. Piston had no markets in it.Timing is aligned with marks.

These are the problems I am having now.

1. Lack of power. When the car is cold it will start fine and idiol rough. When you press on the gas pedal it pop's through the exaust and has no power it boggs down.

2. After it is warmed up you have to press the gas pedal all the way to the floor to get it start and keep it there to keep the car idoiling. The car will not reve up and will die if you let up off the gas pedal. It doesn't even have enough power to move itself unless you feather the gas pedal.

3. The car is running rich.

4. There is a thin cloud of black smoke when it is first started and then a thin cloud of white smoke when it is warmed up.

5. The old spark plugs are carbon coated. We put new spark plugs in and they are carbon coated now too.

This is the things I have done to the car.

1. Had head shaved and put new head gasket on car.2. Replaced Intake gasket3. Replaced Distributor cap and rotor bug4. Replaced Spark Plugs5. Replaced Spark Plug Wires6. Replaced Battery7. Checked for and replaced all broken hoses6. Checked for and repaired all broken, loose or dirty connection on wires.8. Double and tripple checked timing.9. CHECKED CODES no codes are being sent in Mode III besides 44 which book states is NO malfunction detected.10. CHECK CODES in MODE 5 it gives a code of 1 for the CMP sensor signal lost or noise in signal. I am not sure if we checked this MODE right or not. We check it with just the ignition switch on the car was NOT running. Is this correct way of testing this?

Thanks for any help you may give.

mode 5 is to be done when the car is running. The reason it gave you the position sensor code is because it didnt see engine revolution[normal]

I really think you have an airflow meter problem if it is running rich. Disconnect it and start the car see if the car will run with out it being connected. it wont rev up very good but it should run. most importantly it wont run as rich when you do this. Have you done all the voltage checks on the air flow meter yet?
