87 Pathfinder oil leak

I have an 87 Pathfinder with a sever oil leak. I am thinking that it is the rear seal but am hoping that somebody may have had a similar leak and found that it was something more simple to do. It seems to be coming from near the transmission area but I am not positive because there is too much oil covering the engine and I am not wanting to wipe it down and take it for a test drive because I am not sure if it would end up completely blowing up. Any helpful advice would be great.

For someing that big I woudl almost thing it might be the oil pan... rear mains dont usually leak that much...
