Is there a special tool for the exhaust manifold oxygen sensor? and how do you access it and get it out? looks like a very tight spot to work in. Will a o2 socket work in this area or do I need a special wrench.

Yes, you will probably need a O2 sensor socket. There are many different designs.
Are you talking about a 87 car?

Yes. it is. do you know the o2 socket type? and should I approach it from the top of the car or bottom?

Just unplug it, it doesn't do as much as you think...

it causes a rich condition, not undrivable but at $4 gallon gas, I'd keep it
