Hey ya'll ! My '87 Maxima ran fine until I tried to start it the next morning following a drenching rain.

At first, it wouldn't start at all so I thought it might be a dried out, cracked distributor cap so I bought a cap and rotor, swapped 'em out and was able to get the vehicle to start but it ran rough.

Later that same day it bogged down to the point where 35mph on the highway was top speed.

I changed the fuel filter this morning (original '87 unit btw with something resembling muddy water dripping out ) with a WIX unit and the car fired up great, ran smooth - I just knew I had it fixed - but it gets very boggy slowly as the car warms up and is just barely able to go up hills of any size.

Any thoughts/comments would be greatly appreciated - Thanks !

dump cold water on the distributor(i know thats usually a bad idea) when shes messing up. that can isolate a bad dist. also, could very well be your coolant temp sensor. this thing is difficult to check or replace with the timing belt still on the motor. it requires a special tool. i also reccomend replacing the connector if you decide to replace the sensor.

Pull the fuel filter off again and see if you get that same muddy water out of it. I suspect someone dont like you and has given you a special surgar additive to your tank. Or you simply got bad gas.

Useless factoid. week old expired chocolate milk has the same effect as surgar on a fuel injected late 80's ford tarus wagon. When you dont like someone and you want to ruin their day, there are ways...lol
